Duke Francesco III d’Este grants a monopoly for producing “ordinary majolica ware throughout the Duchy”.
1785
Sassuolo becomes one of Italy’s most important manufacturing sectors, aided by young artists and secret pigments
1835
Innovative body mixes and exquisite decorative motifs following the C18th fashions of England and the Veneto. Marca Corona achieves “pure white, the whitest in Italy” in these products
1854
Management passes to the Rubbiani family and products, training and transport are improved and updated. Talented decorators and potters join the company
1871
House number plaques provide the idea for indoor tiles.
1889
National Exhibition of Ceramics and Glassware Art at the Industrial Art Museum in Rome. People wonder: “Who knows whether these tiles will ever take on?”
They were an unprecedented triumph.

With a range rich in sizes and decorative motifs, the “Società anonima Ceramiche Marca Corona” trademark is registered
1960
Development of glazed red stoneware, with several patents applied for
1975
Due to issues with logistics and pollution, Marca Corona moves from the centre of Sassuolo to via Emilia Romagna
1982
Marca Corona joins the Concorde Group
1991
The company starts to rediscover its history and tradition: the book “250 Anni di Ceramica a Sassuolo 1741-1991” is published.
2010
Galleria Marca Corona is opened. This corporate museum conserves the genius loci and tells a story that is truly unique - within the district, in Italy and worldwide.
2012
Sustainability: the cogenerator is installed to provide energy self-sufficiency.
2022
More than €20 million is invested to create a whole new logistics hub equipped with state-of-the-art systems to manage consumption and reduce waste.
2023
Launch of the “Marca Corona per l’arte” project to foster dialogue and connections between culture and industry.
